API Small Business Loans

API provides small business loans, usually between $100-$500, to Kenyan woman starting new businesses. The funding is provided by Women Helping Women, American business women, who desire to empower their sisters in Kenya. Each Kenyan woman seeking a small business loan must complete a basic educational program covering savings, marketing economics and fundamental business practices.

Each woman develops a simple business plan that must be approved based on its probability of profitable success. Each woman must make regular savings deposits and repay their loan as their business generates profit. After repayment, the profits from the business will feed her family and in some cases assist with education expenses. Most of the business ventures involve micro-agriculture or wholesale/retail marketing of basic commodities.
